Crooked House Road’s sound is an exhilarating mixture of honest lyricism, soaring harmonies, and uplifting folk and blues inspiration. The band builds upon a solid roots foundation, but defies labeling by incorporating elements of folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, R & B and Latin and African rhythms.

Crooked House Road’s debut album (self-titled) is ultimately a deeply intimate portrait of 10 years of songwriter Shaina Silver-Baird’s life. The 10 songs reflect on quintessential moments, feelings and struggles from age 14 to 24. The album deals with the challenges of experiencing deep, personal loss at a very young age and how that resonates into adulthood.

Self titling the album was intentional as the band’s name reflects the elements of the album itself: the journey of life (the road); craving the security of self reliance as well as the support of family and friends (the house), and recognizing life’s many challenges and unexpected struggles (the crooked).

Produced by Juno winning and Grammy nominated producer Ken Whiteley, the album features a core band consisting of Shaina Silver-Baird (lead vocals/songwriter), Mirian Kay (vocals, acoustic guitar), Derek Gray (drums/percussion), Tom Mifflin (vocals/piano), Gram Whitty (stand up bass) and Joshua Skye Engel (electric guitar). They are joined by featured guests Darren Eedens (banjo), John Showman (fiddle) and of course the multi-instrumental Ken Whiteley (mandolin/Hammond organ/ vibraphone/steel string guitar/electric guitar).
